Cape Town traffic police issued fines to 142 motorists on Wednesday morning for driving illegally in the bus and taxi lane on the N2, a traffic spokesperson said.
The crackdown was conducted in the Raapenberg Road area, chief inspector Merle Lourens said on Thursday.
Fines were also issued to 40 unlicensed drivers, 33 unlicensed motor vehicles and 13 taxi drivers who had overloaded their vehicles.
Lourens said the smooth operation of the bus lane was "imperative" if traffic congestion was to be reduced. - Sapa
