Boycott Jub Jub, urges PAC youth group

Hip-Hop artist Molemo Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub, should be denied bail and his music should be banned and boycotted by all South Africans, said the PAC Youth League on Wednesday.

"We want to send an uncompromising message to the judiciary or the court of law... to ensure that Jub Jub does not get bail for his immoral behaviour of intentionally murdering innocent children," Pan Africanist Congress spokesperson Pitso Mphasha said.

"Save the lives of many people by directing reckless drivers to where they belong. No bail must be awarded to Jub Jub. Anybody who will award Jub Jub bail is our enemy and shall be dealt with accordingly."

His statement follows an incident on Monday where four high school pupils were killed and two others seriously injured when a speeding car smashed into them in Protea, Soweto.

The four boys, aged 17 to 19, were walking home from school with two other friends in Mdlalose Street, Protea North, at around 4pm when one of the Mini Coopers that had allegedly been racing down the road running between Protea Glen and Protea North hit them.

One of the cars is believed to have been driven by Maarohanye, while the other was driven by Themba Tshabalala.

The two men appeared in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, facing four charges of murder, two of attempted murder, reckless driving and drunken driving.

"Jub Jub is not a good role model to the nation... He undermines efforts by the government to fight reckless driving. As a so-called celebrity, he must be showed that no one is above the law including celebrities," said Mphasha.

He called on all national and community radio and TV stations to stop playing Maarohanye's music. Recording companies and music outlets should also stop promoting and selling his music, Mphasha said.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala are expected back in court on March 17 for a bail hearing. They remain in custody. - Sapa
