Two sons of alleged American gang leaders in Kensington have been shot and wounded, along with two others, during a mass shooting.

Police have been called to multiple crime scenes across the Cape Flats involving more than one victim. In Kensington, 6th Avenue on Saturday, four males were shot and injured during a drive-by shooting, two of whom are believed to be the sons of alleged American gang leaders, whose names are known to the Cape Argus.

Police Constable Ndakhe Gwala explained that gunmen opened fire from a Toyota Etios.

“Kensington Police registered four counts of attempted murder, following a shooting incident that occurred at the corner of 12th Street and 6th Avenue in Kensington on January 10. At around 9:44 am, four males aged between 26 and 32 were standing in the street when a white Toyota Etios with three occupants drove by and started shooting.

"One of the victims sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest, while the other three sustained wounds to their legs. A parked vehicle was also damaged in the incident. The motive for the shooting is a subject of police investigation; no arrests have been made yet.”

A community leader, who asked not to be identified for safety concerns and shared CCTV footage of the shooting, confirmed the victims were sons of two alleged gang members.

It is alleged that gunmen opened fire from a Toyota Etios. A passenger inside the Etios is seen firing several shots as it speeds away, with the men running away after being shot.

On Sunday, police were called to another scene in Blue Downs where a male was shot and killed. Gwala explained that the victim had been driving home along Chumani Street when he was ambushed and attacked. “On January 11 at about 4 am, Kleinvlei police attended a complaint of a shooting at Chumani Street, Bella Donna estate, Blue Downs,” Gwala added.

“They found the body of a 47-year-old man on the street with multiple gunshot wounds. According to reports, the deceased was driving home when suspects in a Hyundai i10 started shooting at him.

"He tried fleeing and eventually got out of the vehicle, and they shot him multiple times. The motive for the attack is undetermined at this point; Kleinvlei Detectives are investigating a case of murder.”

During a third shooting, Steenberg police were called to a scene where two men were shot and killed and a third wounded on Saturday. Gwala explained: “Steenberg police registered two counts of murder and an attempted murder case on Saturday, January 10. Police received information about a shooting incident in Flute Street, and upon arrival, they found a body in an open field and another one in front of a yard. Both males, aged 21 and 34, sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

"The third victim was shot in his chest and was taken to a medical facility for treatment. The motive for the shooting is a subject of police investigation.”
