Kaizer Chiefs’ co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef have bought themselves some breathing space at the club with a purple patch, but the former remains adamant that the road ahead remains long and perilous.

Chiefs won their fourth game in a row when they beat TS Galaxy 2-0 at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as they continued to establish their aspirations of finishing third on the log, potentially behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

Their victory over Galaxy also saw them surpass the 40-point tally for the first time since the 2022/23 season, in which they amassed 44 points after 30 rounds of matches. They are now on 42 points.

Speaking at the post-match press conference following that win over bogey side Galaxy, Kaze revealed the secret behind their already improved tally from the last two seasons.

“I think we are here to serve the club,” Kaze said.

“I think the consistency has been lacking a little bit because last season, we could only win one or two games at maximum in a row. That consistency of having a run of three or four games was lacking.”

Chiefs could extend their winning spree to five league games in a row when they face Magesi at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night (7.30 pm kick-off) – a feat that they last achieved during the 2019/20 season when they amassed eight league wins in a row en route to finishing second in the standings.

A win for Chiefs against Dikwena Tsa Meetse could also elevate them closer to a 66-point finish come the end of the season, provided they win all their remaining eight games.

Should they achieve that, it could potentially force the hand of management to extend their contract beyond the current season. But Kaze is not worried, saying their focus is simply on the job at hand.

“We have eight games to go, and as coaches we know what we want to do,” Kaze said. “We are here to serve the club, and we’ll do our best.”
